It’s Been A Whole Month Already
I really don’t like recap-type posts… I prefer to blog about separate events as they happen… but unfortunately, time does not give me the opportunity.
The Borderline Hippy store will be launched in the new year; I was planning on opening it sooner, but there have been delays with getting the shop up and running. And it made no sense to launch an almost-finished store just before Christmas either. On a positive note, I got some of my gear and appeared at the Gilles Street Markets on the Sunday before last. It was a good experience and I plan on doing it again!
We expanded our herb garden a few weeks ago and our plantings are growing nicely (except for a chilli plant that sadly didn’t make it). We’ve got tomato plants, basil, spinach, lettuce, parsley and chives. We have a cucumber plant too but that’s not really doing very well. The huge mulberry tree in our front yard hogs most of the sun and provides a little too much shade for the garden. Our chosen area will do us for now. Once we have learnt a little more about growing our own stuff, we will be better equipped next year–in terms of location and the soil preparation.
My little one has started on solids in the last couple of weeks. I started him on 1 meal for the first week, 2 meals for the second, and now we’re on 3. It’s been a lot of fun trying out new foods with him, pureeing away and hoping he likes it. It doesn’t go to waste if he rejects it cause it ends up in Arky’s bowl! So far we have tried rice, porridge, carrot, pumpkin, sweet potato, pear, apple and avocado. All organic. Sweet potato and avocado have been losers, but I haven’t yet tried mixing them with something else. Some foods he likes more than others — pear is his favourite.
A couple of weeks ago, I dropped my SLR in the bath tub. Long story. After freaking out and googling what to do when you drop your camera in water, I left my camera switched off for 7 days and it survived. Thank God. My Sigma lens wasn’t so lucky. So, I am stuck with photographing everything with a 50mm prime until I buy a new zoom.
I go from wanting to smother my boy with Christmas gifts, to thinking I should hang back because I know he won’t remember anything anyway. However, it’s not like I can’t/won’t be holding onto his favourite toys and keepsakes. So, I think that leaves me no choice but to smother. Hehe. I won’t be going overboard though–I don’t want to lose sight of the meaning of Christmas. It’s exciting cause it’s our first silly season as a family of 3. The video camera will be running hot.

Woah….
SLR in the bath, nice work. Impressed that it dried out, you might want to get some anti corrosive, cause there may be some residue.
There is also a place in Adelaide that services SLR’s digital/analog, well priced, I have to send my gear there. They might do a flush of it for you with some. Actually they might even be able to fix the lens. They can pull it all apart and clean out sand etc, so why not water droplet etc.
Probably cheaper than a new lens. I think it was around $100 to get a full dismantled clean and service

Hi Cy! I rang a place in the city (namely Photographic Wholesalers) and asked about my lens. They said that they would be a fee to send it overseas to get it looked at, and then I’d be up for further repair costs (obviously)–assuming that it could be fixed. I got the impression that the repair costs would outweigh the purchase price.
But I’m curious about the anti corrosive factor. I’ll enquire about that tomorrow!
